Planning For A Summer Staycation At Home

While you may usually head off abroad each summer, this year is somewhat different from the norm, isn’t it? With the current pandemic raging on, travel is currently a luxury that is no longer available with the ease it previously was. The chances are that if you had a vacation booked this summer, it’s been canceled as a result of the current pandemic. Although having your trip canceled is upsetting, the fact is that if it means you and your family stay safe, then it’s worth the upset.

If you’ve decided to turn the current situation into a positive experience for you and your family, then you might be thinking about holding a staycation this summer - aka a holiday at home where you stay at home and explore the local area further. Believe it or not, a staycation can be a whole lot of fun, it’s just a case of getting the planning right, that’s all.

In need of a few ideas and pieces of inspiration for planning the ultimate family staycation? Have a read of this!

Camp or glamp in the garden

Instead of sleeping in the house, plan to camp or glamp in the garden for the period of your staycation. All you need to do is set up a tent, add a few camping accessories and you’ve got your own private campsite. You could even get creative and use arts and crafts to create an even better campsite vibe, such as making campsite signs, for instance. Aim to cook at your campsite for the duration of your staycation using your BBQ, instead of cooking inside. The more creative and unique you can make the experience, the more your kids will enjoy it.

Transform your outdoor space

To make your staycation a little more fun, get creative with your outdoor space. Think about the ways in which you can transform it to create a more holiday-like vibe. Perhaps you could invest in a blow-up swimming pool? Maybe you could buy some cool outdoor games - click here for ideas? The more creative you can be with your garden, the better. Consider creating zones offering different experiences, such as a games zone, a pool zone, a relaxation zone, a food zone.

Make an itinerary

Every trip has an itinerary in place, so don’t forget to create one for your staycation. If you plan on remaining at home constantly, create a plan that incorporates a number of different activities each day, from sports activities to arts and crafts, all of which should have a holiday-like vibe. If you plan on heading out to see some safe local sights, incorporate these into your plan for your staycation.

The key factor when it comes to organizing a family staycation this summer is to have fun and get creative with your plan. Perhaps you could ask the kids what they would love from your next trip away and build an experience that reflects that?
